Finding Professional Purpose in Uncertain Times

One year ago, I joined my first job. I had this big dream of starting my career and getting to work with people from different countries. I’m grateful a year on, that much of what I’d hoped for has become a reality.

Having a sense of purpose to keep moving forward, and to grow, has been my biggest reason to keep going no matter what the challenges were. Each day felt different, each one bringing a new lesson to build on the last. But recently, one question has been playing on my mind: “What is really going on?”

In times of uncertainty, things get harder. Energy gets drained, and stability starts to feel uncertain. One constant remains, work and focusing on my career, even when things that are happening around you are unclear, and out of your control. To help manage your concern and worry, you should read news from verified websites, get in touch with family and loved ones to lift your spirits, and of course, reach out to experts who can truly help. Acting thoughtfully and responsibly is always more impactful than reacting impulsively.

Professionally, these critical moments reinforce the responsibility we carry, and with media focus shifting – some were, and still are, only reporting the latest regional updates, some asking for expert insights, and other trades working with a slight shift in focus – our role as communicators and professionals is to deliver the correct & relevant message and information. How do you do this? You need to follow the process you always do, complete the necessary research and cross check what the media is focusing on and writing about, and get in touch with them personally for a chat and catch up. Every message we share in the public domain is important and makes an impact for our Clients and Agency.

Another important tip, that makes a significant difference is turning to your team and asking them for help when unsure, or even better getting on a quick call, especially while working remotely. When feeling stressed or down, your team helps ease the pressure, share the load, and cheer you up. Teamwork is essential and no company or organization can succeed without it. We all want to prove to ourselves one way or another, but that can also happen while asking for others’ support.

No matter how many individuals make up the team, it always functions as one.

We can always count on one another, that’s what makes us strong and more resilient. It’s also just as important to stay grounded in our individual roles and responsibilities. Each one of us is qualified, each one of us has a role to play. And let’s remember, the UAE is home for us all.
